Veda Hille returns to Yellowknife! This Canadian stalwart of eccentric and heartfelt music is pleased to travel to the Northwest Territories for a long-overdue return (she was last here in 2004!). The Vancouver-based songwriter joins friends Julia Chien (vibraphone and percussion), Thom Gill (guitar and voice), and Maiko Yamamoto (voice and stylophone) to play music from the new record Veda Hille Sisterhood and the theatre show End of Greatness.
Veda is a musician, composer, theatre maker, and performer. She writes songs, makes records, co-writes musicals, collaborates in devised theatre, and fulfills other interesting assignments as they arise. Veda performs in a wide of array of places, alone or with bands, ensembles, symphonies, and casts. Her career spans 30 years of working in Canada and abroad, and her more than 20 albums continue to be the core of her practice.
Veda’s work circles around many recurring interests: above all, she writes about the natural world, amazement and the unknown, and the intricacies of human relationships. She strives for an ecstatic connection through weird detail, the universe visible through a microscope. All fancy language aside though, Veda Hille chases down the songs that are in her head and delivers them to the world, beautifully.
Veda has proven to be an uncommon talent, determined to speak of person, place and passions in a clear, unsentimental yet often deeply touching way.
