SUMMARY:NEXT ZONE
DESCRIPTION:NEXT ZONE is a Denmark based company working with OPEN STYLE DANCE.  Choreographer Lene Boel works with dancers from different street dance backgrounds such as popping\, locking\, electro\, break dance\, hip hop\, and new circus. She creates a distinct choreographic language which is unique for each production and very visceral. The pieces challenge the language of the human body and what it can express through very articulated and highly physical dance. Dealing with contemporary themes interlacing with the past\, present\, and future the performances communicate to audience of all ages through non-verbal movement\, original music\, and sustainable atmospheric light.  \n\n\n\nTRANSHUMANIST features two dancers balancing between both the artificial and the human\, and between machine and human. It explores the upgrading of the human body and mind in extremely articulated body language. \n\n\n\nSUPERHUMAN explores the limits for the capacities of the human body in a unique and thought-provoking performance that redefines the human being in new optimised versions. It has already become the everyday to enhance human characteristics artificially and modern science has brought closer the dream of the perfect human being. But what happens to humanity in the future if all humans are optimized with new skills that reaches beyond our current mental and physical capacities? \n\n\n\nGREED is a dark\, humorous and thought-provoking solo dance performance for audiences of all ages. GREED explores one of humanity’s darkest sides\, greed\, which is the root of some of the most destructive periods in world history. GREED exhibits this human condition of greed in a new powerfully choreographic language\, scenic light and strikingly newly composed industrial music. \n\n\n\nThe distinctive choreographic language within the performance builds on explorations of mental states\, translated into extreme physical movements in a fusion of urban dance\, new composed music and atmospheric light. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt speaks both to heart and mind to everyone between the ages of 7 and 97. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is organized by:

SUMMARY:Veda Hille and Friends
DESCRIPTION:In Collaboration with \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVeda Hille returns to Yellowknife! This Canadian stalwart of eccentric and heartfelt music is pleased to travel to the Northwest Territories for a long-overdue return (she was last here in 2004!). The Vancouver-based songwriter joins friends Julia Chien (vibraphone and percussion)\, Thom Gill (guitar and voice)\, and Maiko Yamamoto (voice and stylophone) to play music from the new record Veda Hille Sisterhood and the theatre show End of Greatness. \n\n\n\nVeda is a musician\, composer\, theatre maker\, and performer. She writes songs\, makes records\, co-writes musicals\, collaborates in devised theatre\, and fulfills other interesting assignments as they arise. Veda performs in a wide of array of places\, alone or with bands\, ensembles\, symphonies\, and casts. Her career spans 30 years of working in Canada and abroad\, and her more than 20 albums continue to be the core of her practice. \n\n\n\nVeda’s work circles around many recurring interests: above all\, she writes about the natural world\, amazement and the unknown\, and the intricacies of human relationships. She strives for an ecstatic connection through weird detail\, the universe visible through a microscope. All fancy language aside though\, Veda Hille chases down the songs that are in her head and delivers them to the world\, beautifully. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVeda has proven to be an uncommon talent\, determined to speak of person\, place and passions in a clear\, unsentimental yet often deeply touching way. SUMMARY:Springtime Marmalade
DESCRIPTION:Springtime Marmalade reimagines Botticelli’s masterpiece in a jubilant collision of Renaissance poetry and raw punk energy. On stage\, elegance rubs shoulders with rebellion\, delicacy flirts with the absurd\, and humour appears where you least expect it. \n\n\n\nThis show doesn’t just revisit “Primavera”. It transgresses\, disrupts\, and reinvents it. Here\, bodies explode\, emotions overflow\, and each character reveals his or her flaws\, impulses and contradictions. It’s a dazzling mix in which recurring symbols\, like oranges\, remind us of our capacity to let go of our peels\, to reveal what bubbles up inside us\, and to welcome the unexpected part of the other. They become a sign of everything that mixes and invents itself through contact with others. \n\n\n\nSpringtime Marmalade invites us not to remain mere spectators\, but to let ourselves be surprised\, to question\, to plunge into this boiling marmalade. Here\, each one of us moves forward\, unvarnished\, and the encounter takes place in what overflows\, escapes and surprises. \n\n\n\nSpringtime Marmalade is an embodied reflection on identity\, the quest for meaning\, social cohesion\, and a joyful yet desperate revolt. An invitation to explore the complexity of human relationships\, to let anger and joy coexist\, and to celebrate vulnerability as strength. \n\n\n\nHere\, hybridity reigns: classical and punk\, sweetness and bite\, introspection and exuberance. The show becomes a physical manifesto for “being together”\, a cry for freedom in which everyone embraces their place\, their questions\, their intimate echoes. In short: an experience to be lived\, felt and questioned – without sinking into cliché or easiness. Springtime Marmalade: three impulses – that of the heart\, that of the body and that of exuberance – to compose\, together\, an ode to life that makes no apologies for being (sometimes)irreverent. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSURSAUT DANCE COMPANY is dedicated to the creation\, production and presentation of contemporary dance performances. Philosophical\, dynamic and joyful\, with a touch of absurdity\, the company’s choreographic works bear witness to the maturity of an evolving artistic approach which\, for over thirty years\, has focused on young audiences and families. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is organized by:

SUMMARY:lossy
DESCRIPTION:lossy is about an inability to take it all with us. these are bodies at a loss\, gathering together in a stream of movement. a state of recovery. seeking\, sifting\, grasping for an anchor. these are the bodies that were left behind\, haunted by the ghostly traces of lost futures. a nostalgia for a world that never happened. it is at once real and science fiction\, digital and embodied. \n\n\n\nthis liminal space holds a confrontation with the promise of future\, and ever-present absences. a collision between our inexorable\, ecstatic draw towards the limitless new\, and a continuous loss – a perpetual state of mourning for what we are leaving behind. these are bodies compressed and incomplete. there is no answer. there is only the stream\, and the blurring fragments of what we attempt to bring with us. \n\n\n\nlossy is a warped ritual of transcendence. it is a carefree conjuring of a shiny new future “us”\, and a collective grieving for what the future may no longer hold\, once we finally arrive. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLed by artistic co-directors Lisa Mariko Gelley and Josh Martin\, Company 605 is an arts organization based in Vancouver\, on the traditional\, unceded territories of the Musqueam\, Squamish\, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. Producing various dance projects and performances through shared creative process\, the artists place emphasis on rigorous choreographic propositions and movement exploration – juxtaposing raw with precision\, and highlighting effort\, risk and interconnection. \n\n\n\n605 is an ongoing exchange between separate people\, bodies and ideas\, with each project seeking and celebrating the unique possibilities created in their attempt to co-exist. Valuing collaboration as a critical path for new directions in dance\, Company 605 continues to transform and build on an ever-evolving aesthetic\, with multiple choreographic voices in pursuit of an embodied art form derived from the human experience. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is organized by:
