Pat Braden: Shack Tales

"Shack Tales" portrays the humorous and touching chronicle of a stay-at-home father by day and a musician by night raising his two daughters in one of Yellowknife’s Old Town heritage homes: a 1930’s squatters shack with no running water. With stories and music, Pat Braden weaves “Shack Tales” from the story strings of the shack itself; the larger than life characters who built and resided there before him; finding love and raising a family within its walls; telling how his parents came to begin a new life in Canada’s northwest; reflecting on middle age; and then finding himself raising a new generation of Old Towners while his own gracefully age, becoming the next generation of Old Timers.

Pat has recently performed at the NACC Festival of Stories, The Yukon Story Tour, the Poetry Gabriola Festival, the Harrison Festival of the Arts, the Vancouver Storytelling Festival, and at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto. His acclaimed theatre performances include the Imperial Theatre in Saint John, New Brunswick; the Registry Theatre in Kitchener, Ontario; the National Arts Centre in Ottawa; the Yukon Arts Centre; the Port Theatre in Nanaimo; the Fredericton Playhouse; and the Horizon Stage in Spruce Grove, Alberta. Braden has also toured through the Hawaiian Islands in 2010 and the province of Newfoundland in 2011.

“Pat is simply chamber music storytelling for the serious listener.” – T. Perez, Vancouver Storytelling Festival
