NACC presents a new northern play "Brother's Keeper"
Set in the northern town of Yellowknife, "Brother's Keeper" is a one-act play that touches on the subject of homelessness, mental health and the fine line between having shelter and being on the street. A middle-aged woman, trying to keep her own mental issues at bay, encounters a woman she knows from the past who is now living on the street. Through her relationship with her husband and the homeless woman, the woman tries to deal with homelessness, given society's distracted mentality and today's hurried pace.
"Brother's Keeper" was created through involvement with the NACC Northern Playwright Development Workshop series, from 2006-2009. The playwright gratefully acknowledges the assistance of the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre and the NWT Arts Council in bringing this work to the stage.
