NACC and Yellowknife Food Bank present Tom Jackson in Singing for Supper

NACC and Yellowknife Food Bank present Tom Jackson in Singing for Supper Website Link.

The Northern Arts and Cultural Centre and the Yellowknife Food Bank jointly present Singing for Supper with proceeds going to the Yellowknife Food Bank.

Tom Jackson, actor/ singer/ philanthropist, begins his 6th season of Singing for Supper, a national Christmas concert series touring 18 cities from the east to west coast and for the first time, into the Northwest Territories.   Jackson’s musical advocacy for Canada’s less fortunate has resonated for 22 years as he has amassed over $10M for food banks, family service agencies and disaster relief.  In 2008, $402,000 was raised and 13,417 pounds of food collected from the tour for local food banks.

Speaking to his philanthropic mandate, Jackson states, “This year, for the first time, I have attained peace for myself personally.  However there is a blemish.  We are surrounded by conflict.  With 1/3 of the world’s population living in abject poverty, it is imperative we take action.  I don’t know if we – the people, the various levels of government, and the global community – are doing enough.  All I know is that to change the world, I sing.”

Singing for Supper is an exciting evening of both traditional and non-traditional Christmas music. The first half features performances by Shannon Gaye and Pear (featuring Denis & Lynae Dufresne). In the second half, host Tom Jackson presents fellow musicians Tom McKillip, Mike Norman, Kristian Alexandrov, Shannon, Denis and Lynae.

We are asking the community to come out and support this most worthwhile of events.  Canned and dry food drop off bins will be located at the NACC entrance and we are asking everyone to bring items to fill the bins for the Yellowknife Food Bank so that all families in the region are able to put healthy food on the table for the Christmas Season.

2009 Singing for Supper Tour Schedule: Starting in Nova Scotia on November 20 and ending in the NWT on December 18, this cross-Canada tour is a unique Christmas event for families.
